Economists, academics and unions believe that the European Union has trouble surviving COVID-19

Two hundred European economists and academics mobilized by the European Trade Unions Confederation, created in 1973 and which brings together 81 organizations from 36 European countries and 12 European union federations with 60 million members, have published a manifest that says there is an urgent need to suspend stock markets and other monetary and fiscal measures to save the European Union (EU).Many believe that the EU has never been more in danger than now facing the COVID-19 effects.

Coronavirus exposes danger of cuts to sick pay for Europe´s workers since the financial crisis

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) is calling for paid sick leave for all workers across Europe as the coronavirus exposes the danger to public health posed by the cuts made to sick pay by member states. ETUC General Secretary Luca Visentini said: "The coronavirus outbreak has shown how workers´ rights like decent sick pay is not only important to individuals but everyone around them".

Covid 19:European Parliament to vote on €37 billion crisis response

MEPs will vote to make €37 billion from EU structural funds available to EU countries to tackle the coronavirus crisis during the plenary session on 26 March. Elisa Ferreira responsible for Cohesion and Reforms and Nicolas Schmit responsible for Jobs and Social Rights have sent letters to all the EU countries to inform them on the individual support they can receive under the Coronavirus Response Investment Initiative (CRII).

Five nations (China, Germany, Japan, Korea and the United States) accounted for nearly half of all scientific activity around the world as well as the great majority of patents issued during the three years to 2017.Before 2000, Japan, the US and Western European economies accounted for 90% and more than 70%, respectively. These shares have fallen to 70% and 50% between 2015 and 2017, by the emergence of China, The Republic of Korea and others,according to the World Intellectual Property Report
